WHAT IS A Brazilian Butt Lift?
With a fuller, shapelier behind being the desired look for many men and women today, the Brazilian butt lift has become one of the most rapidly growing and sought-after procedures performed today. This innovative surgical treatment utilizes liposuction and grafting techniques to remove unwanted fat from an area of the body and transfer it to the backside to produce a curvier, more attractive frame. One advantage of this technique is that foreign implants do not have to be used to achieve the desired appearance. A Brazilian butt lift can produce stunning and dramatic results that can appear natural or more enhanced, depending on your preferences and goals. In the hands of skilled board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Joseph Tamburrino, this treatment can do wonders for an individual's confidence and silhouette. BBL VS. BUTT LIFT
Although the procedure is known as a Brazilian "butt lift," it does not address loose skin. Depending on your concerns and level of skin laxity, Dr. Tamburrino may include a traditional butt lift to remove sagging skin from your behind before you receive your enhancement procedure. Grafting fat into loose, hanging skin will not give you the tight, smooth, and curvaceous results you're hoping for. If sagging skin on your backside is an issue for you, consider asking about how a butt lift can further elevate your BBL outcomes.
To perform a traditional butt lift and remove unwanted, sagging skin, you will be put under general anesthesia. Dr. Tamburrino strives to create incisions in areas that are commonly concealed by clothing or undergarments. After the tissue has been removed, the remaining skin will be lifted and sutured. Since a traditional butt lift does not add volume, it can effectively be paired with a fat transfer (Brazilian butt lift) or implants to achieve a more taut, shapelier bottom.

What are the benefits of a Brazilian butt lift?
Achieving the right look can be challenging if you're struggling with a flat bottom. A Brazilian butt lift is a very versatile procedure that can help reshape the lower body and produce more appealing curves. It has become an increasingly popular treatment for people who feel that their behinds are too flat or have lost firmness and fullness in this area due to weight loss, age, or other factors. When performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Tamburrino, a BBL can take years off your appearance, enhance your self-image, and boost your overall confidence.
WHO GETS BBL?
The ideal patients for the Brazilian butt lift will be evaluated to confirm they are fit to receive this surgery. The first consideration is to make certain there is plenty of fat on the body to liposuction for the transfer process. If you have a lower body weight or have insufficient fat to remove for the transfer, you, unfortunately, may not be a candidate for this surgery. Also, it is also important to have healthy skin laxity. If you have wrinkled or sagging skin, you may benefit better from a butt lift with surgery. If you maintain a good weight, have the right amount of fat to extract, and do not want to use a foreign object, such as an implant, this enhancement surgery can be an ideal choice for you.
HOW IS BBL DONE?
In most cases, anesthesia is used for a fat transfer surgery to maintain the patient's comfort. Brazilian butt lift is considered an outpatient treatment and usually takes about 2 – 3 hour, but this depends on the quantity of fat that is being removed and reinstated. Liposuction will be performed first to extract fat from predetermined locations on the body, including the hips, abdomen, lower back, and thighs, through a safe and precise process that trims and slims the target areas. After it is removed, the fat tissue is never exposed to open air. Instead, it's purified in a closed centrifuge system. During this time, viable and healthy fat tissue is carefully harvested and placed into syringes. Following liposuction is the injection portion of the treatment when the healthy fat tissue is reinstated layer by layer followed by a delicate massage to ensure the surface is smooth. This phase is repeated numerous times until the desired size and shape has been achieved.
What to Expect
After a Brazilian butt lift, you will be sent home to heal. As you recover, it's important to keep in mind the two (or more) areas that require healing — where the fat was extracted and your enhanced buttocks. Both areas will experience some discomfort and swelling. Patients should try their best to not place additional weight on their backside for at least two weeks following surgery. Once the swelling has gone away, results are noticeable, but your final outcomes will not be fully realized until after 4 – 6 weeks. Once your results have taken shape, your rear end will look curvaceous and shapelier. Even better, the body parts that had fat removal may make your result more dramatic if it was performed on the hips or lower back.
BRAZILIAN BUTT LIFT FAQs
Should I get implants or a fat transfer?
If you want to increase the volume of your butt, you can choose butt augmentation with either implants or a fat transfer, the latter of which is typically called a Brazilian butt lift. In your initial consultation, Dr. Tamburrino will explain both methods and help you decide which fits your body and goals. He will also examine your body to determine the best areas with excess fat that could benefit the most from liposuction (typically the thighs, back, or stomach). If you have a low body fat percentage, you may not be a candidate for a Brazilian butt lift.
How long will my results last?
Although a small amount of fat might be reabsorbed after your BBL, most of the fat will stay in your butt for many years. To maintain your results, you should keep your weight steady. This is because significant weight loss or gain will affect the results of your procedure. For this reason, Dr. Tamburrino advises patients considering BBL to be at a healthy, stable weight before their surgery so it is easier to maintain the results.
How can I recover faster after a BBL?
For a faster recovery after a BBL, Dr. Tamburrino or a member of his team will explain post-operative instructions and tips. You will need to avoid sitting on your butt for at least two weeks as the area heals. Dr. Tamburrino suggests you buy a donut-shaped or nursing pillow that lets you sit with pressure placed on your thighs instead of your butt. Light stretching and short walks will improve your blood circulation and reduce swelling. Dr. Tamburrino might also suggest a lymphatic drainage massage that can help your recovery.
