WHAT IS Kybella?

Even a small amount of extra fat in the upper throat area may create the look of a "double chin," which can be bothersome for both men and women alike. The additional pockets of fat under the chin (also called the submental area) may be caused by aging, weight fluctuations, or genetics that contribute to a weaker chin and jawline for an undefined profile. Thankfully, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Joseph Tamburrino is happy to provide his patients with a revolutionary injectable formula that eliminates neck fat. Approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration), Kybella is the first nonsurgical treatment for submental fat. The active component in Kybella is a synthetically crafted version of deoxycholic acid, which works like the body's natural DA to dissolve and absorb fat. After it is injected beneath the chin, you will see a noticeable reduction in the amount of fat present. When the fat has been expelled, the cells will not reform so you can enjoy your new slender profile and strong jawline for years to come. WHO CAN GET KYBELLA?

The best patients for Kybella treatments are those who have excess fat in the upper throat (submental area) that creates unwanted fullness or the look of a double chin. This injectable addresses stubborn pockets of fat that cannot be reduced with common weight loss methods because of genetics, aging, or other conditions. If you are at a healthy weight but exercise and diet have not been able to remove the fat in your neck, Kybella may be the best option for your needs. While Kybella may address small or moderate amounts of fat in the submental area, larger amounts of fat may be better suited for surgical neck liposuction at Tamburrino Plastic Surgery & Med Spa.

HOW DOES KYBELLA WORK?

Kybella is performed after your consultation inside one of our private treatment rooms. Dr. Tamburrino will typically apply a numbing gel to the treated area, if desired, after the skin has been cleaned. The session will last about 15 – 20 minutes, which comprises several small injections into the submental area. Some patients may only require a single treatment to reach their goal while other individuals may need several injections spaced three weeks apart at Tamburrino Plastic Surgery & Med Spa.

What Can I Expect After KYBELLA?

Kybella doesn't require anesthesia so you will be allowed to leave our office as soon as you're ready. You may experience short-term bruising, numbness, or swelling below your chin, but this should not last more than a few days. Contact Tamburrino Plastic Surgery & Med Spa right away if you are feeling any unusual side effects, such as facial muscle weakness, difficulty swallowing, or if your smile is uneven. While the fat that's eliminated does not regenerate, the remaining cells could potentially grow in size so you should maintain a steady weight after your Kybella injections to prevent new pockets of fat from developing. Optimal results following this treatment leave your neck looking slimmer and tighter and your profile will be better defined.

KYBELLA FAQ

How much does Kybella cost?
The price of Kybella treatments will depend on how many appointments you need. In your consultation, a personalized Kybella treatment plan will be made to work with your budget and goals. A member of our staff will also talk about the payments we accept during your first appointment.

How does Kybella work?
The active ingredient in Kybella, deoxycholic acid, works to break down fat cells in the submental area. After the fat cells are destroyed, these fat cells will not grow back. Therefore, more injections should not be needed as soon as you have finished.

Can Kybella be used to treat other areas of the body?
Right now, Kybella is only available for treatment of the area below the chin. Kybella has been proven to effectively minimize the look of a double chin. Kybella isn't approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) for use on any other areas of the body.

Am I eligible for a Kybella treatment?
Before your consultation, you will answer a few questions to make sure you are a candidate for Kybella treatments. You need to be over the age of 18 years old, not breastfeeding or pregnant, and cannot have any infection in or around the treatment site. Before receiving treatment, you are encouraged to share any health concerns and your medical history with your injector so they can decide if you may be at risk for an adverse reaction from the treatment.

How many treatment sessions will I need?
During your consultation, a customized injection plan will be created to match your cosmetic goals. Typically, patients receive between two and four Kybella injections to achieve their goals. Kybella injections must also be spaced around 30 days apart. You shouldn't receive any more than six treatments.
